Local Link Laois Offaly and Local Link Mayo have been shortlisted for the Age Friendly Transport Award 2019


The National Age Friendly Recognition & Achievement Awards  is a celebration of the work done to make communities more Age Friendly. The Age Friendly Transport Award is sponsored by Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport.

Local Link Laois OffalyConnecting and Collecting Rural Communities in Laois and Offaly through the Rural Transport Programme and Local Link Mayo Connected Mayo: Addressing isolation through Community Transport joins Dublin Bus in the shortlist for the prestigious prize.

The fourth National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards for 2018/2019 take place on the 14th November 2019 in Croke Park and recognise the innovative and creative approaches to making Ireland a great place in which to grow old in.

“This a great reflection on the wonderful work that is being done at a local level in Laois and Offaly for older people in our communities” says Local Link Loais Offaly Manager Frances Byrne.

The Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme has been running for over ten years and has been implemented by all 31 Local Authorities throughout the country.

The Age Friendly programme is built on the recognition of the valuable role that older people can play in shaping their communities for the better with the aim to make Ireland a great place in which to grow old in.

The programme has a real impact on the lives of older people” says Local Link Mayo Manager Sarah Togher “and we are delighted to be nominated a look forward to hearing all about the wonderful work going on around the country to make our communities more age friendly”.
